What is Math Circles?

Math Circles are open format, informal enrichment meetings for students who enjoy mathematics and problem solving.  Throughout these sessions students will be able to expand their classroom mathematics learning through games and different mini lessons.

The sessions will be run by Nipissing University student volunteers, who are in the mathematics program or have an interest in working with children.  This year, the Math Circles will focus on problem solving in small groups (Grade 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-12).  Within these groups, students will be working through activities focused to their grade level, in small groups with the volunteers.  By participating in these activities, we are aiming to prepare students to participate in the Math Kangaroo contest.

Math Kangaroo is an international mathematical contest for school students held simultaneously in more than 70 countries around the world. Math Kangaroo will take place at Nipissing University on Sunday, March 26, 2017.  In the later sessions, students will work through problems with the volunteers to prepare them for the contest through different games and quiz activities.
